June 27, 2004 Fearnley, Petitclerc and Geierspichler win in Long Island With a time of 20:37.68, Kurt Fearnley (Australia) defeated Ernst Van Dyk (South Africa) and Saul Mendoza (Mexico) by a second to win the open men's division in Sunday's race. In the open women's division, Chantal Petitclerc (Canada) won by just five-tenths of a second over Diane Roy (Canada) and Ariadne Hernandez (Mexico), finishing in 24:36.45. Thomas Geierspichler (Austria) followed up his win in Toronto by defeating second-place finisher Clayton Gerein (Canada) by nearly a minute.
