They came from across the world to the 2004 America Series to answer one question.

Throughout the two-week series, beginning in Toronto and stopping in Long Island and Cedartown (Ga.) before finishing in Atlanta, more than 150 wheelchair racers tested themselves in all wheelchair racing disciplines: sprinting, climbing, coasting and endurance. All this to find out who was unequivocally the best wheelchair racer in the world.

By less than five hundredths of a point, the answer was South Africa's Ernst Van Dyk. Van Dyk's victories in Toronto, Cedartown and the 400-meter Meet in the Heat event were enough to carry him just above second-place finisher, Canadian Diane Roy.
